Chicklet surveys the site, nods to Zagon approving of his ingenuity, then suggest to Simple,
"I believe you and I are both qualified enviromentalist? Perhaps we should scout on a spiral pattern around the landing site out to 200m while the vehicles are modified and armed. We can analyze samples and clear the immediate environs of the shuttle lest there be any surprises."

Zagon is successful with his weapon mounting project. [Just to clarify... Did Zagon want the heavy laser above the cab or above the cargo area? To operate a weapon mounted above the cab you need only to stand up on the passenger side seat and poke your head through the cab's roof. To operate a weapon mounted above the cargo area, however, you might need a step ladder just to reach the hole in the roof. I can forsee some problems with mounting above the cargo area.]
Zagon also successfully connects the heavy laser to the vehicle's power supply.

Billow finds the envirokit and starts gathering some samples...rocks for the geoscanner, mosses and bird droppings for the bioscanner. [Billow analyze samples 70%, geoscan roll 86 failure, bioscan roll 25 success, bioscan roll 37 success]
Billow's rock sample appears to be volcanic in origin, but he can't tell much about it beyond that. His moss sample has chlorophyll uses photosynthesis, reproduces with airborne spores and is even edible with minor nutritional value. The bird droppings are found to include remains of small crustaceans and fish, which could be the diet of the sea birds you observed in the distance.

Chicklet is left with the vaporscanner. [Chicklet analyze samples 60%, roll 40 success]
The atmosphere is 77% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and 1% carbon dioxide with smaller amounts of other gases. There is a significant amount of water vapor in the air. Chicklet also detects some sort of soot or ash that is likely volcanic in origin. This level of volcanic ash is not a health threat, but other areas of this planet may have different concentrations of ash in the air.

Cha'kki tests his chronocom connection with the shuttle's videocom radio and finds everything in working order.

As Chicklet and Billow spread out in search of more samples, the flock of sea birds turns away from the huge sea creature and begins flying toward your position. The birds look harmless and are about 1 kilometer away from you now. The huge sea creature then dives beneath the waves and shows its giant forked tail for an instant before disappearing into the depths.

OOC - in the cab then. I wasn't exactly sure how the truck was set up when I posted but that option sounds best.

BIC - Observing the sea-beastie in the distance, Zagon cracks wise: "Aye, what 'ave we got there? Looks like the fabled Pan-Galactochness Monster."

Zagon will get cracking on adapting the ground truck so he can operate it, mostly using blocks affixed to the floor pedals and fashioning a "booster" seat if needed...something easily reversible in case someone else needs to drive.

Cha'kki will walk out with Chicklet and Billow as they do their scanning. He will in particular be headed towards the dome structure and trying to stay in between both of them. If they do go as far as 200m out they may reach the dome structure. He will be keeping an eye on the surrounding as they pay attention to their scanners.

"Hey Mav, you ever heard of that ancient rock group Flock of Seagulls?" Chakki chuckles at the thought of their number one hit I RAN SO FAR AWAY. "Pfft, Cha'kki never runs away," he mutters to himself.

"Anybody have any ideas about this other shuttle that landed here? Shall we attempt to make contact with the pilot? Should we have the robots secure it so it doesnt fly off? What's our objective for the next 10 hours? Find a suitable place for the rest of the Pan Galactic to land and take refuge?"

Zagon pulls out his stunstick and taps it into an open palm. "Aye, I'd love to be makin' contact with Mr. LaGrange...rest assured 'e won't be havin' his cybercats and bugs this time around!"

Chicklet, makes no assumptions about the strange birds and loosens his weapon in its holster. He takes his time moving and looking for samples practicing his stealth skill for no other reason than to blow the dust off his skills. He especially is looking for anything that could be a problem, whether flora, fauna, or other.

Zagon finishes preparations with the ground transport.

http://www.firefighter-emt.com/files/2009/01/frankfurt.jpg
[I decided this particular ground transport will be the cabless flat topped variety.]

With the heavy laser mounted and the drivers seat adapted for his Ifshnit frame, he is ready to go.

The flock of sea birds arrives over your heads as the rest of the team wanders ahead scouting and looking for samples. The birds create a racket with their squawks and cries, but make no offensive moves. They may just be curious.

Chicklet practices his stealth skill (stealth 30%, roll 59 = failure), but his movements are clearly visible to everyone present including the sea birds.

In response to Cha'kki's questions, Mav your pilot replies, "We are pretty much on our own. Lt Paddock wanted us to reconnoiter the rotating beacon and await developments aboard the Pan-Galactic. So we need to scout this area and avoid being captured by Hilo's supporters when they arrive. Hopefully we will regain contact with Lt Paddock or friendly personnel, but I'm not predicting anything at this point."

Zagon can easily start the engine of his ground transport and catch up with the others. Nobody in your group has reached the dome structure or Legrange's escape pod yet, since they are at a higher elevation and can only be reached by the highway.

Cha'kki doesnt like these birds giving away his position to anyone or anything nearby. 'So much for the element of surprise!' he thinks to himself.

"So if we need to keep this beacon funtioning, and you all have something against this Mr. LaGrange guy..." Cha'kki pauses as if trying to put two and two together," ...I really have no idea what he might be doing here. Oiling the gears perhaps?"

"Shall we start by securing his transport and then make sure he isnt oiling the wrong gears? I would personally like to get into some cover and away from these squawking birds."

Cha'kki will relay to Mav and Goos the info about Mr Lagrange being a threat to the group . "Might want to activate a security droid and button up the hatches."

OOC: When we mounted the Heavy Laser did we basically mount the tripod it used. I am wondering if the Sonic Devastator uses the same tripod, therefore could be switched out easily if needed.

Mav and Goos have already buttoned up the shuttle.

I'll assume Zagon drives the ground transport up the highway to the dome structure unless he says otherwise. The highway is the only access to the top of this rocky height that the dome is built on.

[Yes, the heavy laser and sonic devastator are interchangable.]

Zagon gives the transport a once over and climbs up into the driver's seat. He runs the slide-key through the ignition reader and the truck comes to life, its electric motor humming smoothly and quietly. He gooses the throttle and is satisfied with the response. Throwing it into gear, he eases out the clutch and heads toward the rest of the group.

Once reassembled, he asks "Our course of action, what's she bein'? Scout the town or take a lookie at LaGrange's pod?"

Cha'kki votes for securing the escape shuttle,"We could split up, send group to town and secure shuttle. I am at you service. However you will not make contact (*wink*wink) with Mr Lagrange in town and Mav say we should keep beacon going."

"Mav and Goos, if we get second shuttle are you able to fly them solo?"

Cha'kki will man the heavy laser on the trip to the dome although he would feel uncomfortable firing it.

OOC: I just want to verify that I have this correct. In the group we have Mak, Greg, Euryale, Billow, Zagon, Chicklet and Cha'kki. Mav and Goos with bots in the shuttle. thx

By this time, Chicklet and Billow have walked up 150 meters along the old highway and reached the dome structure. They find Legrange's escape pod with the hatch open, abandoned by it's owner. Not far away is an opening (2 meters wide) that leads into the base of the dome structure. One set of human bootprints can be seen on the moss covered rocks leading from the escape pod to the opening. The bootprints lead in one direction only...into the dome.

Everyone notices that the sea birds avoid the dome structure. None of the birds come within 50 meters of the dome.

Meanwhile, back near the shuttle...
Greg "Gizmo" Sharpe (played as an NPC) gets in the ground transport, picking a seat behind Zagon. He brings one security robot and the medical robot along with him in the back of the transport.

Cha'kki steps into the passenger side of the ground transport and mans the heavy laser.

"Both Goos and myself are capable of flying a shuttle solo," Mav informs Cha'kki via chronocom.

[Your group consists of Billow, Chicklet, Zagon, Cha'kki and Greg along with one security robot and the medical robot. Mav and Goos remain on the shuttle along with one of the security robots and the maintenance robot.]

"Aye, if we run into Mr. LaGrange along the way, I'll know how well the bumper works!"

Zagon will guide the truck up the road to where the rest of the group went.

As Zagon drives the ground transport up the old highway to the dome, a squall blows in from the sea. The change in weather conditions is rapid. By the time he brings the six-wheeled vehicle to a stop, all four heavy duty windshield wipers are sweeping buckets of rain from his windshield.
http://www.firefighter-emt.com/files/2009/01/frankfurt.jpg

The truck's headlights cut through the rain and illuminate the 2 meter wide opening at the base of the dome. A passage leads inward at least 8 meters.

Chicklet and Billow get caught in the open by the sudden onslaught of wind and rain.

Cha'kki is getting soaked in his position at the heavy laser, with some of the water leaking down onto his passenger side seat.

[note: Visibilty is so poor, during the squall, that there is a real danger of accidentally walking over the edge of a cliff. The dome is 30 meters wide with steep dropoffs on three sides of the rocky height it sits on.]
