[The shadow Billow sees is from a "Large" sized creature (Large size from AD rules, 200-1500 kilograms and 2-5 meters long), but his vision is limited by the rain.]

Cha'kki's eyes are wide with surprise. "Holy Hermit Crab!" he says under his breathe.

He asks Zagon if he wishes to jump on the heavy laser or use other means of cooking, "Chef Zagon, care to BBQ?"

If Zagon does not wish to use the heavy laser Cha'kki will climb up under the all weather blanket and use it as a hood over himself and the laser, setting it to 20 SEU and firing first, asking questions later.

If it seems like it would do any good he will ask Greg if he can move up front and use his flashlight to help spot the other creatures or if he has any suggestions being the techical expert that he is, they would be most welcome.

If Zagon is going to fire the laser then Cha'kki will make sure his grenades are in their proper places within reach. He will tell Zagon and Greg that he is prepared to exit the vehicle and try to draw the creatures away from Billow but will wait till they respond.

Zagon toggles the chronocom. "Chik, watch yourself laddy. There's a fair sized critter lurking near you. I saw a barbed tentacle flinch behind the pod as we approached, it doesn't seem to care for our lighting but we can't be sure on that either."

quote:
"Chef Zagon, care to BBQ?"

"Nay, laddy...got me hands full wit the drivin' end. 'Sides, I'm not qualified with energy weaponry, rockets are my thing."

Watching for the critter, he continues. "I recommend not firing unless you have to, let's see if Chiklet wants to make a run for it first. If so, give our buggy lad some good cover fire, otherwise I say let's not dispatch too much of our energy just yet."

If there is a mobile positioning spot lamp (a la police cars) Zagon will try to keep a beam on the tentacle, otherwise he will simply keep the roofrack lights on the location.

Cha'kki will man the heavy laser using the blanket as a hood to keep the rain off. If he has a clear shot he will chronocom that he is about to fire, Take careful aim and BBQ some seafood. He will wait for a large section of creature to be visible before firing.

"turn on escape pod lights?"

Chicklet is torn between fully latchting the pod door and waiting out the creature and making a run for it. Escape pods are designed to with stand the violence of a ship's destruction and give the occupant a chance but it there is a large beast out their it could knock the pod over the cliff and into the sea below.

"Zagon, I'm activating my IR goggles and will see if I can spot this thing. If it looks good I'm coming to you."

causiously Chicklet looks out the view port without the googles then tries IR. If he cant see anything he will try peaking out of the pod's door. In no way does Chicklet want to take a foolish chance with running like a rabbit for a large predator; if it looks to be resonably safe he'll make the dash on his fast vrusk feet.

Zagon and Cha'kki can't get a clear line of sight. Heavy rain and Legrange's escape pod block their view.

Chicklet looks out and sees nothing but rain, then switches to IR optics. The form of a large three legged creature with a harpoon tipped tentacle is now visible through his goggles.

Billow gets a better look at the shape of the shadow near the pod and makes out the same outline Chicklet sees from another angle.

Chicklet and Billow (both have environmental skill) see the form of a creature that looks very similar to a Volturnian Queequeg (AD rules page 39). The legs are a bit thicker and the body is narrower than that of a Queequeg, so it may be a different species. The similarities to Volturnian biology are obvious, however.

The Queequeg-like creature lifts fully open the hatch that Chicklet had propped open. Then its segmented tentacle reaches into the pod feeling around with the harpoon tip, possibly searching for dinner or maybe just out of curiousity. Chicklet isn't sure which, but he knows he has very little room to hide or maneuver in. The harpoon tip touches one of the empty cat food packets on the floor of the pod and seems to be sniffing or tasting the packet.

With the situation about to go south in a big way Chicklet decides to not speak into his chronocom and instead manually activates it repeatedly in a pattern hoping that others pick of on coded SOS hes sending in the form of clicks and static. He first does the old vrusk code from pre-contact days then follows with the newer PanGal code.
To himself he says, 'Come on Cha'kki recognize it.'

Then readying his autorifle to fully automatic he launches himself out of the pod a second behind the harpoon exiting it using his stealth skill for all he's worth and making the mad dash for the vehcile.

If he's attached he will fire a burst but other wise he will seek cover in the vehicle.

Cha'kki is focused on the escape pod and his field of view for targets. For a moment he thinks he can hear a familiar sequence of clicks on his chronocom. There aren't too many other ways to communicate in solitary confinement. But the rain is making it very difficult to hear. "Is weather messing with chrono zagon? I thought..." Cha'kki cuts himself off not wanting to be distracted by the past.

"where is seafood? come to cha'kki. I show you good time!" says cha'kki.

If cha'kki understands the SOS signal he will fire a 1 seu or minimum power shot over the top of the escape pod.

Seeing Chiklet bolt from the pod, Zagon fires up the truck and moves forward at 40m turn to close the distance, slowing to 20 as he nears Chiklet. "Someone open the door for him! Chak, if you got a shot, take it."

If the creature can't fit into the domes opening Billow will fire a 1d10 round to gain it's attention if the need arises.

Cha'kki employs the secret Arach-kwon-dough technique of arach-na-nerves, allowing himself to remain calm amid outer turmoil. His trigger finger does not grip the heavy laser so tightly. Instead his nervous energy is channeled to his senses of sight, hearing and smell. He knows there were three of these creatures out there and is intent on locating them. Suddenly Cha'kki notices a change in the air, a creature must be near. There is no doubting it's foul stench. Then as if a laserbulb turned on in his head, Cha'kki gives Zagon a squinty eyed look,"did you fart?"

Cha'kki shakes his head and continues scanning for seafood.

While Zagon drives forward to give Cha'kki a clear line of sight, Billow fires a 1seu laser blast at the creature's shadowy form.
[Billow laser pistol, roll 97 = automatic miss]
Billow fails to hit the Queeqeg-like creature, but does get its attention. The creature withdraws its harpoon tentacle from Legrange's pod and turns briefly to look at the dome.

Chicklet makes his dash out of the pod and toward the ground transport as soon as he sees the tentacle withdraw.

Miraculously, (the creature failed its check) Chicklet gets past the creature and scurries at vrusk running speed to the ground transport. Assisted by Gizmo, Chicklet enters the vehicle through a side door and out of immediate danger. Gizmo slams the door shut behind the vrusk who is now drenched with rain.

Cha'kki now has a clear shot with the heavy laser. [AT 45, roll 29 hit, 20seu for 122 damage] [creature STA 180-122= 58 current STA]

Cha'kki lights up his seafood with a powerful laser blast. The 20seu blast also converts some of the rain into a steam cloud that obscures your vision. The Queeqeg-like creature staggers and retreats, scurrying rapidly out of sight. It's direction of movement suggests that it is moving back to the cliff edge.

Over your chronocoms, you hear Mav report that the shapes on his IR scope are moving quickly back down the cliff and into the sea.

The rain begins to let up at this point. The squall ends, but the rain continues at a reduced volume. Billow can now see the pod and the ground transport clearly. The rest of you can see Billow standing in the entrance to the dome.

"Welcome back, laddy!" Zagon calls out over his shoulder to Chiklet once the door is closed. Looking over to Cha'kki he asks "How's the action on the swivel mount?"

Zagon will move the transport as close to the dome as he can (staying on the road), putting it into park once there.

Cha'kki gives Chicklet a vruskan form of 'knucks' celebrating his escape from sure death.

"Dis BBQ work good mr z, but seafood go home, he one tough critter" says Cha'kki with excitement and dissappointment.

Cha'kki will settle into his seat and crank up the heat to dry himself and ChicKlet off. "anyting in pod chicklet?"

"mr billow, what in dome?"

cha'kki will ask mav if he is able to pick up any heat signatures in the dome

[Don't forget that both Chicklet and Billow are convinced that the creature you just saw is related to the Volturnian Queeqeg. Mav can't see inside the dome with the IR scope.]
