Build 1.44
14 NOV 08
More player versions of Pirate ships are now on-line, and the pirates get a new EW missile to disable targets with. Pirates and Sathar are smarter, (so is the UPF for you Sathar Fans) and Autoplayer ships know how to use missiles better and hold their fire when they can't hit you behind a planet.
As you may know, the RPG under development has been integrated into these rules. For udates on that, consult the in-game information. ALL LINKS for this game now point to the address above.

Version 1.4 MAJOR RELESE
Version 1.33 was the worst version yet. Lots of bugs were created. I have mowed down quite a number and have moved on to version 1.4 1.4 includes a new generation of AI code.

Version 1.4 changes:

Fixed a bug with pirate missiles.

Added a player version of the Pirate Frigate. This and other pirate vessels will get some neat stuff soon.

All new model for planetary collision avoidance. Ships can now plot around planets pretty well, and can approach closely. All "kludge" fixes for this have been replaced with good math. You don't need to be wary about launching fighters to attack a space station anymore.

New implimentation of all missile code. You can't blow yourself or friends with your own torpedoes (but seekers will get ya). Pirate seekers did not work correctly (but should have...game engine bug), and that has been fixed, actually improving all the missiles.

Attack craft now will return to the carrier after depleting their AR's They reload and re-deploy.

Pirate vessels are wary of missiles, and run from them. This code may be implimented in other ships after playtesting.

Other minor fixes such as missiles that used to accellerate after engine shutdown and other things have improved.

Playtest data would really be appreciated.
Game Instructions:

CREATING A SCENARIO
This version supports up to 7 players. There ARE NO default scenarios set so the host must create one in the "Create Scenario" screen. To create a scenario, left click on a square icon at the top row. This selects which player will play the next ship you place on the board. Next, left click a ship on the row of ships on the left-hand side. Your cursor will now be dragging around a ship. Right click within the play area to place the object.
For solo play, use the M (master) player button and the "A" (auto) player buttons for placing your units. Remember that this board will be scaled up 10x for play, so closely placed objects will be much further away in the actual scenario. For multiplayer, you must designate one ship per player.

GAME PLAY
Operating instructions:
* To target a ship, you must left click on them or near them. The targeting reticle targets the closest ship to the click.
* Mouselook by holding down the right mouse button.{NEW!}
* Arrow keys turn and accelerate ships.
*<CTRL> locks the throttle to full.
* <M> launches Seeker Missiles, Mines, or Assault Rockets if equipped.
* <T> launches Torpedoes.
* <1,2,3,etc> Number Keys fire beam weapons. Hold down a number key or keys to get a range marker showing the extreme range for the weapon. Release the key to fire the weapon. Note that the closer you are, the better chance to damage the target (same as KHV rules, 30 pixels = 1 hex). Mind you that the UPF point defense weapon (Mass Driver "MD") is an automatic weapon and requires no key-stroke.
* <S> Superconductive Coating Defense System is turned on with the <S> Key. In some ships without SC, <S> turns on stealth mode.
* <G> Gauss Screen is energized with the <G> key. Both the gauss screen and the SC coating each reduce your engine thrust by 1 gee (1 ADF).
* <END> Is the Background Music toggle.
* <HOME> Re-start a scenario with the <HOME> key, but in multiplayer, everyone needs to do this simultaneously(or close to it)for now. It will be fixed later so that the host can re-start everyone.)
* <Backspace> exits to the title screen from the play screen, and erases scenario editor screen input.
* <Escape> exits the program at any time.
* <F1> is the information screen .
* <F2> adjusts your screen resolution. Push it repeatedly to cycle through views at different resolution. Currently, 1280x960 and 1024x760 resolutions are supported.
* <Z> A "ZOOM OUT" view which lets you see the full 6400x6400 room in a 960x960 area.
* <F4> takes you to windowed mode.
* <F5> saves a game (it will save it to the same directory).
* <F6> loads a game. Only one save is currently supported
* <F9> takes a screenshot in .bmp format.
SHIP SPECIFIC KEY COMMANDS
In Carriers: Keys 7,8,9 and 0 (zero) each launch a ship type . The keys under them (U, I, O, and P) set that ship type's target to the one currently selected by the carrier.
The Minelayer: The keypad + and - control the launch velocity of mines you deploy with the <M> key.

Special Abilities:
The following classes may operate in atmosphere (over the planets): Assault Scout, Hotel, Osprey, Incisor, Juliet, India. They must have a speed of less than 4 at all times when in contact with the planet, or they will disentigrate.
Notes on Weapons:
Lasers Cannons (LC) do good damage over long range.
Neutron cannons (NC) are much shorter range, but do hideous amounts of damage and can be used to attack ships on a planet.
Particle Cannons (PC) Electron & Proton beams trade off range and some power to be able to damage ship systems more effectively. IF you are hit with one of these, check your engines!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You may play solo, or over the Internet,LAN, or phone line. Remember that if you are playing it over the internet, and the Server(HOST)computer is behind a router(you go through a router to get to the internet) you must forward all ports (DMZ)to your computer. If you do not have a router, no worries. Just make sure your firewall doesn't block it, and you are good to go! In any case, LAN games are really simple to set up. Just start game the hosting computer, connect via TCP/IP, but don't enter anything for the IP address. Then start the game on the client computers, and play away.
If you experience video problems, try setting your monitor refresh rate to 60, and your resolution to 1280X1024.
It looks interesting.
Uh, actually, the game so far just has three keys...the up, left and right key. That lets you move the one sole ship in this version...that is the whole game so far.
I like the format. The controls kind of remind me of the old "Asteroids" game. But I wasn't able to "feel" any gravity around the planet. I tried time and time again to slingshot around, but my vector was unperturbed no matter how close I got to the planet.
Hm... That is bad. Was the version named "KHVDesktop.exe" ? It is worth noting that speeds at which you might get a noticable effect from the gravity will be quite slow as this planet is the equal to the size of the moon (in scale)and one second of thrust with the ship is equal to a minute of thrust at 5 gees. Make sure the version you have is correct, and that you arn't going TOO fast as you whizz by
[:u][8~2][8~2]
YES!!!!!!!!
I downloaded it earlier and I just tried it here at my office before anyone else got in [%] When you get some weapons on the ships, and we get multiple clients, how are we gonna set up games? Got a multiplayer server set up in the works? If nuttin' else, we can all just agree on a date and time. We need that "Who is on-line" forum function back if so, and maybe a chat window.
Ready for another one bub?
Anyone available for testing versions online in the evenings? I would really like to do this over the internet. I have some LAN testing ability, but it really sucks. I only use it for checking messaging. Ohterwise for most functions I have built in "single player" modes.
Playtester preferences: Evening access to internet. Ability to down-load versions in a reasonable amount of time. Either no router, or the ability to forward all ports on the router (put your computer in the DMZ) to host games. Also a .net account (for IM purposes) would be nice.
Anyone with these qualifications that wants to help, please post here, E-mail me at Masthead@Tampabay.com , and send me an IM request to aethelwulffe@hotmail.com .
I can probably help out sometimes. What time do you consider "evening"? I don't have a .net account for chatting. Where do you sign up. I have IRC and yahoo accounts but not anything on Microsoft systems.
To err is human, to really screw things up you need a computer.
