EDITED:
Here is a Work in progress SF RPG game with an animated walking Vrusk figure and a Dralasite. They are controlled with the arrow keys, and <CTRL> makes them run. Sorry, they have no enviroscanners, laser weapons, or even an ID card yet, but that will change. Before I make more animated characters for the RPG game, I need some isometric view terrain to test them out in. The view angle is 45 degrees relative with this figure.
The game testbed now has the two character types and several building to poke around. WE NEED TERRAIN DRAWINGS!!!
Critics, Playtesters, and artists/scenario writers for single player adventures are needed.

Hey Art - long time no hear...

Anyway, I like where you are going with this, and would be happy to help out with some story lines.

Do you have any idea what kind of game interface you would like?

Maybe a Fallout style game?

Fallout is an excellent example. I only played it for a short while though, so I am not real familliar with it, so help me out.
In any case, I think I would like to make it real-time motion at least most of the time, i.e. not turn based. I suppose turn-base option would be good for action sequences.

Storyline collaboration should be done via a private forum, an on a by-topic basis I think. Otherwise the forum becomes a spoiler. I'll set up a private forum so we can share ideas.
I intend to build this game with a multi-player backbone, so keep those options open. Single player will be very (most)important, but having a scenario-builder right in the game will allow other people to do a lot with it.

Sounds cool, Art. Let me know how you want to go about it.

Seems like a secret forum would be the way to go.

Then I can post the plot flowchart there for you and we can get started.

I'll help where I can of course. I assume you are doing this in Game Maker as well?

To err is human, to really screw things up you need a computer.

Actually Terlo, you might not want to, since some of this material will be used in our upcoming game...

I don't intend on making a carbon copy of it, but there will be many parallels - definitely enough to ruin the whole plot for you.

Yes, I have started using GML for the game. That does not mean that I am unwilling to use a different engine, but I am familliar with it, and it seems to be a great tool. There are also a variety of pre-made engines for GML RPG's that I am going to look into. The multiplayer engine for VECTOR is pretty crude, so if multiplayer has an aspect in this game at all (it might not), then I intend to make improvements the the VECTOR multiplayer in the process.

On TerlObar's involvement in the storyline development:
Actually, he will, as an administrator, already have access to the forum. He does not, however really need to open any particular thread. Simply start a thread and make a note for him to not read it. The actual scenarios and the development of the game engine can be treated seperately, and of course he can develop other scenarios/storylines for us to explore...we will desperately need all the input we can get. Any of us can put together a good adventure storyline. For a Great Story, the refinement process tends to use up a lot of "idea ore".
Single player games that are heavy on storyline and weak on graphics really need a LOT more story than other types of games.

On the input:
Complete storylines are needed, no doubt. We can do nothing without a starting point. That doesn't mean that we only need one complete storyline...
Often in the context of development, several perfectly good storylines may get rendered down/recombined for their elements. It may be that simply adding them together creates greater depth with secondary storylines. Perhaps the premise of one story is REALLY novel, yet other submissions have really cool "scenes" that are just too good not to use. Sometimes, some truly great ideas just don't work in the media used, and the approach needs to change. I personally would not feel comfortable with publishing something that has not been re-written at least a dozen times. I hate it when I write something or make something, and then a couple of years after I release it, I finally get the reviews and input I needed all along ("It would have been great if you had just..."). Usually, no one will take the time or have the interest to critique you stuff for you. Collaboration puts us in the position where everything that you do gets tossed around before it hits the streets.
Even though the storyline(s) developed for the game will be in a private forum, idea contribution can be pretty public. Anyone should feel free to post any cool adventure elements, or add in any reminicent "really cool" favorite story elements that they like or have played. When you are building something from scratch, having an idea boneyard is >so< usefull. Credits in the game will list anyone that contributed, even if the idea they submit is not actually used. It may be that the idea is borrowed and simply unconciously tweaked so that it is unrecognizable. That does not mean that the idea wasn't valuable. I am going to dig through every PBEM we have posted, as well as every notebook I have for elements that strike me as useful.

Remember that cheezy flick 'Robocop'? There is a scene where one of the antagonists has blown away a guy with a shotgun. It is a typical violent unmemorable scene with little value except to provide a vehicle by which Robocop is created. There is one unusual bit in that scene that stuck in my mind. The sociopathic gunman stands over the mortally wounded man writhing in agony in the street and asks "Aww, does it hurt?". The delivery of that line was probably the "deepest" bit of character development in that whole movie. That line was taken from a screenplay called "Ohio River" that cost a lot of money to develop, and was never produced. That was it. One line/scene. You knew after that one scene that the bad guys were REALLY BAD though. Robocop could blow them away later with a clear concience.
